Volunteer Role

Edinburgh Road Club is seeking a new Wellbeing and Protection Officer to help ensure our club remains a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all members.

This is a critical role within the club. The Wellbeing and Protection Officer plays a key part in safeguarding, promoting wellbeing, and ensuring that everyone — from new riders to long-standing members — feels respected and able to enjoy cycling with ERC.

Why this role matters

Cycling clubs thrive when people feel safe, supported, and confident that concerns will be taken seriously. The Wellbeing and Protection Officer is the club’s first point of contact for wellbeing or safeguarding concerns and helps ensure ERC meets its responsibilities under Scottish Cycling guidance and good practice. While issues are thankfully rare, having a trusted, approachable person in this role is essential.

What the role involves

Acting as the club’s Wellbeing and Protection Officer and safeguarding lead

Being a confidential point of contact for members with wellbeing or safeguarding concerns

Supporting and advising the committee on wellbeing and protection matters

Helping the club follow relevant safeguarding and protection policies and procedures

Managing the PVG process for the Club to link with both Scottish Cycling and Triathlon Scotland (different processes)

Liaising with Scottish Cycling where required

Promoting a positive, inclusive and respectful club culture

This is not a crisis-management role and does not require professional counselling or safeguarding experience. Most of the time, the role is quiet — but when support is needed, it is invaluable.

Who we’re looking for

A current ERC member who is approachable, calm and discreet

Someone able to handle sensitive information responsibly

Comfortable communicating with individuals and the committee

Willing to complete any required wellbeing or safeguarding training (support provided)

No prior experience in a similar role is required — just a commitment to the wellbeing and protection of fellow club members and to helping ERC be the best club it can be.

What you’ll get in return

The opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the club

Support from the committee and access to training resources

A chance to help shape the culture and future of ERC

A role that is valued and respected within the club
