Three of our youth riders were selected to represent Scotland in the British Inter-Regional Track Championships in September.
On the back of their success at the British Youth Track Championships where Andrew Levinson won the Points race, Izzy Barbour took silver in the Madison and Micah Myles bronze in the Scratch, the trio (all first year U16s) raced across 9 events over 2 days.
The team also included riders from Deeside Thistle, West Lothian Clarion, Glasgow Riderz, Discovery and Johnstone Jets - racing against Wales, Leinster, Ulster and 10 English regions - with two girls and two boys racing in each event.
Day 1 was all about Sprint and the bunch races.
Andrew picked up a couple of 5ths and a 6th in the Tempo, Points and Elimination races while Micah sprinted to victory in the 5th-8th place final in the Open Sprint and Izzy took 6th in the Female Sprint. Wins in the Female Tempo and Elimination races as well as 2nds in the Points and Elimination meant Team Scotland ended the day 3rd overall, looking good for a medal.
Day 2 saw the team events, with both boys and girls teams taking 4th in the Team Sprint.
The girls then beat the British Youth record in the 3km Team Pursuit to qualify first for the final. However, they couldn’t quite replicate their pace and took silver behind a strong Welsh team.
The boys qualified third in the Team Pursuit to go into the Bronze final where they beat South East England.
The day finished with Micah sprinting to a brilliant bronze in the Keirin, securing Scotland’s place on the podium with 3rd overall.
A fantastic experience for all 3 riders to represent their country, cheered on by a crowd of parents and other club members in the stands.
