2025 Ben Forsyth C-R-Y Race Day Results

The first round of the Scottish Cycling Youth Crit Series, organised by Edinburgh RC, was held at Fife Cycle Park on Sunday. Riders had cool but dry conditions with the overnight rain thankfully passing through earlier than expected, a welcome development for the 148 entrants. The Youth A (U16) and Youth B (U14) series events held in the afternoon were preceded by Go-Race stage races for YC and YD, and YE riders. Stages were a time-trial, knockout street sprint and a mass start criterium. Podiums were awarded by birth year which doubled the number of smiles and cheers.

In the afternoon, the Series races comprised two 45-minute crits with A & B riders. The YB races were won by Eilidh Scally of the Jets and Josh Stewart of SteppingStanes. In the older categories, Melanie Rowe (Deeside Thistle CC) pulled out almost 30 seconds in the closing lap to win her final appearance in the event. The boys' race was closer, with the promoting club’s Micah Myles just getting the better of a large bunch. He lifted the Ben Forysth Cup which was presented by Ben’s father Keith. Micah will be eligible to win it again next year as a first-year youth A. The trophy is in memory of ERC’s U16 GB circuit race champion. The event is used to raise money for C-R-Y heart screening sessions in Scotland and to raise awareness of the condition. You can donate to this cause here through Just Giving.

After the race, Ben Forsyth Cup winner, Micah said, “I’m very pleased to win today. Some really good riders have won in the past and I kept up the ERC tradition of winning for the fourth year in a row. Thank you to everyone who helped organise”.

His sentiment was echoed by Youth A girls winner Melanie who added, “This has got to be one of my favourite races over the years. It’s an honour to compete in this race as it raises money to support CRY which is such a worthy cause. I’d like to thank Ben Forsyth’s family as well as Phil Darby for making this happen. It was great to see so many young riders having fun on their bikes today”

Thanks also to the rotating shift of marshalls and finally to SC's Lusia and Paul for running the AB coaching session which wound up the day'.
